_We_ve heard that houses and businesses in Hatteras Village were
completely destroyed. One of the places we play is the Sandbar and
Grille - an eye witness called into the radio station in Nags Head to
report that it and several other businesses were gone. She said the
Sandbar had water straight up that gutted the whole restaurant and when
looking at the front, you could see clear through to the other side of
the building. Houses were torn from their support columns and swept
out to sea. One was floating in the Sound and another had parked itself on the highway."
