The current rate for workers aged 22 or over is £4.50 per hour. For workers aged 18-
21 inclusive the rate is £3.80 per hour. Workers aged 22 or over who are starting a
new job with a new employer and receiving accredited training must be paid a
development rate of at least £3.80 per hour for the first six months and £4.50
thereafter.
From October 2004 the minimum wage rates are set to increase again, although the
actual rates will not finally be confirmed until end February 2004. The provisional
rates are £4.85 per hour for workers aged 22 or over and £4.10 per hour for workers
aged 18-21 inclusive. The development rate will also increase to £4.10 per hour.
